Kalkinny Fiddaun Kennels came about from the union of two distinct kennels; Kalkinny Kennels (Canadian Kennel Club registration #29142019) owned by and registered to Louise Bouchat-Laird of Kemptville, Ontario and Fiddaun Kennels (Canadian Kennel Club registration #10061041) owned by and registered to Terry O’Shaughnessy also of Kemptville, Ontario.

Louise has been a CGA since 1985 and has owned dogs for most of her life.  She co-founded two all-breed canine rescue organizations which helped place hundreds of abused and abandoned dogs in the Ottawa area over the past 15 years. She first fell in love with the Irish Wolfhound when, as a child, she was introduced to a beautiful grey male by one of her school friends whose parents owned this beautiful boy. From that day on, she promised herself one day she would purchase one of her own. After getting her first Wolfhound, there was no doubt in her mind this was the only breed for her and one Wolfhound soon became two and then three!

Terry, also a dog fanatic, bought Tara, his first Wolfhound in 2000 from Mrs Barbara Daley of Aotearoa Irish Wolfhounds. Though he did not show her, he knew he would eventually own a second and this time would enjoy the world of Dog Showing.

Louise bought her first wolfhound Briggs in August of 2008.  Louise and Terry met and became good friends in the spring of 2009 at one of the All Breed dog shows in the Ottawa area.  At that time Louise’s pride and joy Briggs, a.k.a. CH Baileysong Dublins Brigadier (out of Aotearoa) CGN, a red wheaten male, was barely 6 months old.   Terry was the proud owner of Hooligan, a.k.a. CH Windseeker Wayward Son, a 10 month old, grey wheaten male Irish Wolfhound. Both Louise and Terry were hit with the “Dog Show Bug” and have been thoroughly enjoying handling and showing their dogs ever since.  By the end of the summer, their individual dreams of starting their own breeding program of these magnificent animals  soon became one.

In late fall of 2009, Louise purchased what would be their first foundation bitch, a beautiful 8 week old wheaten brindle puppy she named Sheenan, a.k.a. CH Aotearoa Emrys Cabaret CGN from Mrs Barbara Daley of Aotearoa Irish Wolfhounds. 

On May 3rd 2010, their second foundation bitch was born; a stunning grey brindle puppy named Heera, a.k.a. CH Aotearoa Kaldaun Concerto from Barbara Daleys’ Aotearoa line and Kaldaun Kennels which is owned and registered to Ms Kyreen Shorey of Kingston, Ontario. Louise had the honour of assisting in the whelping of this beautiful litter.

On October 3rd 2011, Sheenan whelped her first litter; two beautiful boys sired by BISS Can.Am.UKC CH., AKC G.CH. Starkeeper McEnroe of Limerick, owned by Jocelyne Gagne of Starkeeper. We have kept (under a co-own) one of these beautiful boys which has been named Selkirk, a.k.a. Kalkinny McShane of Starkeeper.

It is their goal to produce the highest quality Irish Wolfhounds.  All their dogs are C.E.R.F. & O.F.A tested for eyes, hips, elbows and heart disease.
